Q. I'm a disabled person looking for a job, how can I get help to do this?
Your local Job Centre or Job Centre Plus will support you to look for a job and get help with training. RBKC Information, Advice Guidance and Careers and North Kensington Opportunities offer free career advice sessions to residents of the borough. ADKC's Lifelong Learning project can also assist you to use job searches and make applications. You can also contact other public services and disability organisations for information and advice on any vacancies they may be aware of. Kensington Recruitment also provide support.
Q. Can I be turned down for a job because I am disabled?
No. It is unlawful for any employer to discriminate against a disabled person when choosing someone for a job or considering people for promotion, dismissal or redundancy.
If you feel that you have been discriminated against in applying for a job, contact the Disability Rights Commission, who can advise you on your rights and support you to take legal action if necessary.
